How To Layer Like a Boss
What is one thing that you can do to instantly make your outfits more fashionable? Layer.
Layers are to style as the Millefeuille is to pastries. With a little practice, layering is the easiest way to add visual interest to an outfit and instantly look more put together.
Think about a guy with a white dress shirt and dress pants. Now add a tie, a vest and a jacket. It takes 4.7 seconds to put on layers, but the result creates the illusion that you spent a long time not only planning your outfit but creating your overall style.
Don't know how to layer? I'm going to make this super easy for you. Here are five key pieces that make layering simple AND could even become part of your signature look.
Collared ShirtWhether you are layering a collared shirt under a chunky turtleneck sweater or a sleeveless jacket, it can add an instantly tailored look to any outfit. (Image: Community Thurlow Sweater, Artizia)
Silk TankDon’t put your summer blouses away during those cooler months, they make really great layering pieces especially under a shirt or sweater with an open back or hi-lo hem.
TurtleneckThis season’s jumper looks great paired with a tight turtleneck underneath. I also love them under cardigans or long, open sweater vests.
Striped shirtHave a solid crew neck sweater? Awesome. What about a striped top? Yeah? Okay, put the sweater on over the striped top together and let the end of the striped sleeve poke out. So cute. You are welcome.
Round hem t-shirtA round hem on a tee is so much more flattering than a straight cut. Pile them under flowy light knits or cute sleeveless anorak vests.
